Warm Into Wellness this Spring

As the days get longer and the weather starts to warm, the shift from winter to spring is more than just a change in season rather an opportunity to reset your habits, routines, and mindset around wellness.

Spring is finally here and with that our energy, appetite, and motivation tend to shift too. Tuning into that transition can make a big difference in how you feel day-to-day.

At its core, wellness isn’t about perfection it’s about small, consistent habits that support your body over time.

Why seasonal transitions matter

Our bodies are highly responsive to changes in light, temperature, and routine. During winter, you may notice lower energy levels, cravings for heavier foods, and less motivation to stay active. That’s normal.

But as spring arrives, your body often starts to crave more freshness, both in food and lifestyle. This is a great time to gently build new habits rather than jumping into an all-or-nothing reset. Think of spring as a “transition phase,” not a complete overhaul. Find what works best for you, and tune into the little things that can support your well-being.

Simple wellness habits to focus on

Start with your mornings. Adding even 5–10 minutes of sunlight exposure or a short walk can help regulate your sleep-wake cycle and boost energy. It doesn’t need to be complicated, open up the windows, feel the natural environment under your feet, walk instead of driving to get your morning coffee.

Be mindful of morning technology use. Before you reach for your phone in the morning, take a deep breath, stretch, brush your teeth. It can be so easy to be consumed by our notifications, the news. Take a moment to pause and start the day the right way.

Hydration is another easy win. As temperatures rise, your fluid needs may increase. Here are some easy ideas that can be helpful:

  • Keeping a water bottle nearby

  • Adding herbal teas like peppermint, ginger, chamomile

  • Infusing soda water with berries and citrus to spruce up the flavour

  • Setting a timer as a helpful reminder to drink more

  • Starting the day with a glass of water and lemon

Nutrition tips for the spring shift

Spring naturally brings more variety and freshness to your plate. It is a beautiful time to embrace seasonal eats, visit your local farmers market.

Instead of forcing restrictive habits, think about what you can add in:

  • More colour: Fresh fruits and vegetables like leafy greens, berries, and citrus can help boost fibre, vitamins, and overall satisfaction.

  • Balanced meals: Including protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates helps keep energy stable. For example, adding eggs, yogurt, tofu, or legumes to meals can improve fullness and reduce cravings.

  • Lighter, not less: Meals may naturally feel lighter in spring, but that doesn’t mean eating less. It’s about choosing foods that feel good and energizing.

Embrace seasonal foods and recipes and add colour to your plate:

🌱 Asparagus (one of the biggest seasonal highlights)

  • roasted asparagus with lemon

  • asparagus risotto

🌸 Rhubarb

  • rhubarb crumble, compote, or jam

🌿 Wild leeks (ramps)

  • pesto, sautéed with eggs, added to pasta

🟢 Peas & pea shoots

  • fresh pea soup, spring salads

🌶️ Radishes

  • eaten raw with butter + salt, or in salads

🍓 Strawberries (late spring, usually June)

  • fresh strawberry shortcake

You might also notice your appetite shifting, and that’s okay. Listening to your hunger cues (instead of sticking to rigid rules) is a key part of sustainable nutrition.

A mindset shift for the new season

You don’t need to “start over.” Tune into how you are feeling at this time of the year and embrace the change s with simple nourishing habits that leave you feeling your best.

Wellness habits aren’t about chasing a perfect version of yourself. They’re about creating a lifestyle that feels supportive, flexible, and realistic.

So as you move into spring, keep it simple. Open the windows. Add something fresh to your plate. Move your body in ways that feel good.

Until next time,
